Romania - “Is Romania ready for a just transition from coal to green energy?”

On September 24th, 2025, Asociatia Edulifelong organized the debate “Is Romania Ready for a Just Transition from Coal to Green Energy?” in Târgu Jiu, Romania.
The activity aimed not only to educate youths about the green transition but also to help them make decisions based on facts, data, and logical reasoning. Divided into teams representing different perspectives - the Greens, the Miners, and the Balancers - youths engaged in a structured debate where they used mathematical analysis and civic reasoning to support their arguments.
The event encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and public speaking, empowering young people to understand the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of the energy transition. Many participants reported feeling more confident in using data to support arguments and more aware of the complexity of energy transition decisions.
Denmark - The Voices of the Future

During Folkemødet 2025, Nyt Europa gathered around 40–45 participants for an inspiring Earth Dialogue on the role of youth in the green transition. Folkemødet – Denmark’s largest political festival with more than 114,000 visitors – provided the perfect setting for discussions between politicians, activists, civil society, and young voices.
The debate, moderated by climate justice researcher Jessica Petersen, featured insights from Rukiatu Sheriff (Nyt Europa), Dalia Awadh (Save the Children Youth Denmark), and activists Frederikke Slotsager and Ronas F. Korkmaz. The conversation focused on meaningful youth inclusion and how young people can gain real influence in decision-making – not just a symbolic seat at the table.
The panel highlighted that the climate crisis deepens global and social inequalities, with those least responsible being the most affected. Therefore, solutions must be developed together – with those who live the consequences.
Key takeaways:
-
Inclusion must be real – not tokenized.
-
Structural inequalities must be made visible to policymakers.
-
Climate change exacerbates intergenerational and class divides – and demands action now.
